Amatikulu Trail Run
The Amatikulu Trail Run takes place at The Hatchery near KwaGingindlovu on 18 October 2026. The venue is a lagoon-side site that was formerly a prawn farm and now provides rustic accommodation and camping beneath coastal canopy.
All routes are loop courses that begin and end at The Hatchery. Medium and long courses use boat transfers as part of the route. The first ferry carries runners from the race village across the Amatikulu Estuary to the start, and about 3 km into the route boats may shuttle runners across the Nyoni River into the Amatikulu Nature Reserve, subject to water levels. Boats carry up to 12 runners, operate every 5 to 10 minutes, and depart on a first-come, first-served basis. Boats are also used for the return crossings and post-finish crossings. Competitive runners should allow for possible wait times at river crossings, which may affect race positions.
Trails run through open coastal grasslands and pockets of indigenous vegetation, with potential sightings of zebra, giraffe, various antelope species, and abundant birdlife. Aid station provision and elevation vary by distance. There are no compulsory kit requirements listed for the courses. Parking near the venue is limited and carpooling is advised. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
