Event overview
The Airdrie Backyard Ultra is scheduled for July 17, 2026 in Airdrie, Alberta. The format requires runners to complete a fixed loop every hour until only one runner remains. Each loop is 6.706 km long. The official winner is the last person to complete a loop; other participants are recorded by the number of loops they complete and are classified as DNF if they stop before the winner finishes.
Format, course and support
The course begins and ends in the grandstands of Ed Eggerer Athletic Park and follows a paved pathway around East Lake and through nearby neighbourhoods. Each loop must be completed in less than 60 minutes. Competitors must be inside the starting corral at the bell and all must start at the bell; warning signals are given before each start. Except for restroom breaks, competitors may not leave the course during a loop. No non-competitors or eliminated runners are allowed on the course. Artificial aids, including trekking poles, are not permitted. Slower runners must yield to faster runners.
Basic aid station offerings such as water, electrolytes and snacks are available at the start/finish area each loop. Crews may use a designated infield area; pacers are not allowed. Registration opens November 2025. The event runs rain or shine; only extreme weather such as lightning may pause the race. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
