Event

The Airdrie Backyard Ultra is scheduled for July 17, 2026, in Airdrie, Alberta. Competitors run a repeated loop each hour until only one runner remains. Each loop must be completed within 60 minutes.

Course and venue

The course is a measured loop of 4 miles 880 feet (metric equivalent 6.7056 km / 6.706 km). The event uses the grandstands and track at Ed Eggerer Athletic Park, then follows a paved pathway around East Lake and through local neighbourhoods. Stadium lights are used if the event continues into evening hours. The starting corral is measured to fit the entire field and remains the same size throughout the event.

Format and rules

Each loop begins precisely one hour after the last. Competitors receive 3, 2, and 1 minute warnings before the bell and must start at the bell. Except for restroom breaks, a competitor may not leave the course until that loop is complete. No non-competitors are allowed on the course, and eliminated runners may not re-enter. No personal aid is allowed during a loop, and artificial aids such as trekking poles are prohibited. Slower runners must yield to faster runners. Keeping lap times is optional.

Support and logistics

Basic aid (water, electrolytes, snacks) is available at the start/finish area each loop. Crews may use a designated infield area and spectators have access to adjacent amenities at Genesis Place. Pacers are not allowed. Registration opens November 2025 and closes July 15, 2026 at 11:59 PM MT. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
