African Game Lodge Trail Run
Part of the Montagu Winter Trail Running Series, this event is organised by Makadas Adventures and hosted at African Game Lodge Montagu, Driekuilshoogte Road, Montagu, Breede River DC, Western Cape, South Africa. The series includes six venues and three distances per event.
Distances and elevation
- 5.7 km Fun Run, 194 m ascent, karoo veld loop with lodge and valley views
- 11.8 km Trail Run, 307 m ascent, route passes a dam and climbs toward Slagkloof
- 17.8 km Trail Run, 425 m ascent, longer route past two watering holes through Slagkloof
Course notes The 11.8 km route passes a dam where animals gather and follows a hand-cut section called Slagkloof, a narrow kloof with notable vegetation and rock features. Exiting the kloof provides wide views over valleys and mountains toward Montagu. The trails are described as non technical and largely manicured; some sections descend into the same final stretch used by the fun run.
Event and series details The African Game Lodge offers accommodation, restaurants, a pool and a play area for children. Wildlife observed on and near the trails includes giraffe, zebra, gemsbuck, kudu, eland and smaller species. Entering the full six-event series carries a R 300 discount, completion yields six medals that form a memento, and full-series entrants receive a trail run cap valued at R 150.
