Achilles Hope & Possibility 4M Presented by TD
The Achilles Hope & Possibility 4M presented by TD is the 24th annual race that celebrates disability inclusion. The event takes place in Central Park near the Naumburg Bandshell on West 72nd Street in Manhattan and is contested over a distance of 4 Miles. The race is scored and awards finisher medals.
The event commemorates the anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act and serves as a precursor to Disability Pride Month. Achilles International, founded in 1983, is noted in the event materials for empowering people with disabilities to participate in adaptive running and endurance sports.
The race includes adaptive categories that will receive top finisher awards, including handcycle, pushrim wheelchair, ambulatory AWD, duo teams, lower limb loss ambulatory, mobility impaired, and visually impaired. Duo Teams pair a Pusher with a Pushee; the Pusher must be 18 or older and the Pushee must be at least 8 years old. Duo Team rules require the registered Pusher to propel and control the customized racing wheelchair for the full distance, prohibit motors and gears, and recommend a safety helmet for the Pushee.
Kids races are offered for ages 2 to 11 with free registration. The event is listed as a 9+1 program qualifier and additional accessibility and accommodation processes are available through the race organizer. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
