Abe's Army 12-week training program
Abe's Army is a 12 week training program that prepares runners and walkers for the Abe's Amble 5k and 10k in August. The program begins on June 1, 2026 and runs through race day (August 23, 2026). It operates in Springfield, Illinois, at the address 801 E Sangamon Ave.
Participation requires membership in SRRC; the option to join the club is included with registration. An orientation for packet pick-up, program expectations, and questions is scheduled for May 18, 2026. Registration opens March 14, 2026 and closes June 20, 2026.
Children under 16 may participate only under the direct supervision of a parent or guardian; they will be assigned to the same group as their supervisor. The program provides supportive leaders and training advice, plus structured weekly sessions that include Monday training runs with water stops.
Registration for Abe's Army includes an Abe's Army performance tech shirt, a training plan and printable log sheet, race entry for Abe's Amble 5k or 10k, finisher medals for both Abe's Amble and Abe's Army, access to professional medical advice related to running, access to the Abe's Army online training Facebook group, an end of season catered picnic in the park, and a 10% discount at Springfield Running Center during the program.
