Abe's Amble
Abe's Amble takes place in Springfield on the last day of the Illinois State Fair in August. The course passes through the fairgrounds, Lincoln Park, Oak Ridge Cemetery, and returns to the fair area. The 10K course is USATF certified. Hundreds of runners from Illinois and surrounding states typically participate.
Available race options include:
- 10K
- 5K
- 10K Virtual
- 5K Virtual
Race packets are distributed at a Saturday packet pickup in Lincoln Park Pavilion (1601 N Fifth St, Springfield) where sponsors and an expo will be present. Those who registered by the t-shirt deadline will receive the size selected at registration; registrations after that deadline are not guaranteed a shirt. Limited race day packet pickup is available at the fairgrounds the morning of the event. Someone else may pick up a participant's packet if needed.
There are no refunds. If the live event cannot be held, registrations will be converted to the Virtual Race. Virtual participants may run their distance on their own and submit a time beginning the Monday after the race for one week; virtual participants appear in results but are not eligible for age group awards.
Finishers receive race medals and post-race refreshments will include bottled water and bananas. Live results stream during the race and participants who opted in may receive a text with their finish time. Awards cover overall and age-group placements for both distances. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
