Abe's Amble
Abe's Amble is a running event held annually in Springfield, Illinois, on the final day of the Illinois State Fair. The event offers two primary distances on a course that takes participants through the Illinois State Fairgrounds, Lincoln Park, and Oak Ridge Cemetery. The 10K course is USATF certified. In addition to the physical races at the fairgrounds, virtual options are available for those serving as race day volunteers.
Available distances include:
- 10K (6.2 miles) running race
- 5K (3.1 miles) running race
The event utilizes a traditional mass start format for both distances. Participants who cross the finish line receive a race medal. A finisher area is provided featuring bottled water, bananas, and various refreshments. Runners who opt in during registration receive their timing results via text message, and live results are streamed online throughout the morning.
The event includes an awards ceremony following the races. For the 10K, awards are presented to the top overall male and female finishers, top masters, and the top three finishers in age groups ranging from 14 and under to 80 and older. The 5K event recognizes the top overall male and female finishers along with the top three in each age group. A pre-race expo and packet pickup are held the day before the event, featuring sponsor booths and photo opportunities. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
