Abe's Amble
Abe's Amble is an annual running event held on the final day of the Illinois State Fair in Springfield. The event utilizes a traditional mass start format and guides participants through a course that includes the fairgrounds, Lincoln Park, and Oak Ridge Cemetery. The 10K route is USATF certified.
The event offers the following distances:
- 10K
- 5K
- 10k-Virtual
- 5k - Virtual
Virtual options are reserved specifically for individuals who are also volunteering on the day of the live race. Virtual participants can submit their times online for one week following the event but are not eligible for age group awards.
The event includes a pre-race expo on Saturday where participants can pick up their race packets, meet with sponsors, and access a photo opportunity. On race day, a finisher area provides refreshments such as bottled water and bananas. All finishers in the 10K and 5K events receive race medals at the finish line.
Awards are presented in several categories. For the 10K, awards are given to the top overall male and female, top masters, and the top three finishers in five-year age increments ranging from 14 and under to 80 and over. The 5K offers awards for top overall finishers and the top three in the same age group brackets. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
