About the race
The 5Katie event takes place on November 7, 2026 at Meeks Mountain Trails in Hurricane City Park, Hurricane, WV. It is organized to raise awareness and support for pediatric cancer, and proceeds will benefit the WV Kids Cancer Crusaders.
The event features trail courses on single track, hand built trails. Courses are well marked and can be easy to moderate in difficulty; weather and terrain can affect footing. Aid stations with water and sports drink will be available on course, and post-race refreshments will be located at the shelter in the bowl. Park bathrooms and portable restrooms will be available at the start and finish area. Safety personnel and EMTs will be on call for emergencies. The start/finish area is located by the shelter in the bowl across the train tracks; signage and volunteers will direct participants and participants should take care when crossing the tracks. Packet pickup is at the big red barn at the front of Hurricane City Park on race day.
Distances
- 2K Walk: approximately 1 mile on gravel and dirt trails within the park.
- 5K Run/Walk: course close to 4 miles on single track trail.
- 10K Trail Race: approximately 6.1 miles on single track hand built trails.
- 5K Virtual Race: 3.1 miles; shirts available for pickup in Windfield WV by Nov 20.
The 5K and 10K include overall awards for 1st to 3rd male and female and age group awards for listed divisions. Registration opens August 10, 2026 and closes November 5, 2026. Shirt orders for in-person registrants require registration by October 26, 2026. Virtual competitors are not eligible for awards. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
