Flight Deck Running at Bishop International Airport
5K On The RUNway offers a flat and fast course located directly on the runway of Bishop International Airport (FNT) in Flint. This event provides a secure racing environment where participants can run or walk in a unique aviation setting.
The event features several race categories catering to different interests:
- 5K Run
- 5K Competitive Walk (judged division for age group and overall awards)
- 5K Non-Competitive Walk (timed results without award eligibility)
- Little Pilots Kids Run (approximately 1/4 mile)
Due to airport security protocols, all participants and spectators must pre-register by September 30th. There is no late or race-day registration available. Attendees must park at the Genesee Career Institute and pass through a security screening, which includes an ID check and a clear-bag policy. Prohibited items include weapons and fireworks, while see-through water bottles are permitted.
Shuttles transport participants from the security check to the runway area. While water is provided at the finish line, there are no aid stations along the course. A post-race gathering takes place back at the Genesee Career Institute featuring cider and donuts. Early packet pickup is available the day before the event at the Crim Office.
