5k for Earth Day
The 5k for Earth Day takes place in Humboldt Park, a notable green space in Chicago. This event returns after a 13 year hiatus and serves as the conclusion to a two-day weekend dedicated to environmental care and community action. The weekend is organized in collaboration with the Humboldt Park Advisory Council, the Humboldt Park Earth Day Committee, and NVIRO.
The first day focuses on restoration activities, including tree planting and park cleanup efforts at the Humboldt Park Fieldhouse. The second day features the running event, which follows a clearly marked course through the park. The route concludes at the park boathouse.
Participants can choose from the following distance:
- 5 km (runners, walkers, and families)
The event is designed to be inclusive for all ages and ability levels, including first-time participants. The weekend brings together residents from Chicago and its surrounding suburbs to promote sustainability and local environmental responsibility. The focus of the gathering is on community participation and movement within the city's natural environment. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
