5K Bun Run, Kids' Half Mile Race, and 2 Mile Fitness Walk
The Kolacky Days event program includes three community events held in Montgomery: a 5K Bun Run, a Kids' half mile race, and a 2 mile fitness walk. The 5K begins at Tri-City United Public School - Montgomery Elementary & Middle School and finishes on 1st Street near the White Front Saloon. The kids' race takes place in historic downtown Montgomery, starting on the north end of 1st Street at the intersection of 1st Street North and Boulevard Avenue.
The Bun Run began as a footrace in 1980 and was measured as a true 5K beginning in 2013. The fitness walk was added in 1988 and was set to a 2 mile distance in 1990. The kids' race is organized into age waves so children compete with peers; boys and girls run together.
Registration fees are listed by event and by registration timing: typical fees are $25 per person for pre-registration and $30 for late or walk-up registration for the 5K and the fitness walk. The kids' race fees are typically $13 for pre-registration and $18 for late or walk-up registration. Only pre-registered participants are guaranteed a t-shirt. The event publishes awards for age-group placements and overall winners, and medals and prizes are available for pickup near the finish area.
