5K Bun Run, Kids' Half Mile Race, and 2 Mile Fitness Walk
The Bun Run is a community running event held as part of Kolacky Days. The race began in 1980 and was changed to a true 5K in 2013. Over the years participants have included athletes from abroad, Olympians, former professional players, and a future Minnesota Supreme Court justice.
The program includes these distances:
- 5K road race
- Kids' half mile race
- 2 mile fitness walk
The 5K and the 2 mile fitness walk start at Tri-City United Public School – Montgomery Elementary & Middle School and finish on 1st Street near the White Front Saloon. The kids' half mile race is held in historic downtown Montgomery at the intersection of 1st Street North and Boulevard Avenue, with boys and girls running together in separate age waves.
Registration options include pre-registration by form or online and late or walk-up registration at the event. Fees are listed as follows: 5K and walk $25 pre-registration or $30 late; kids' race $13 pre-registration or $18 late. Only pre-registered participants are guaranteed a T-shirt.
Awards include 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place medals for all age groups and special prizes for the top three male and female overall finishers. Event records and recent top finish times are maintained for reference. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
