5K Bun Run, Kids' Half Mile Race, and 2 Mile Fitness Walk
The event is part of the Kolacky Days festival and includes three activities: a 5K Bun Run, a Kids' Half Mile Race, and a 2 Mile Fitness Walk. The Bun Run began in 1980 and was converted to a true 5K in 2013. A fitness walk was added in 1988 and took its present 2-mile format in 1990. The 5K and the fitness walk start at Tri-City United Public School – Montgomery Elementary & Middle School, 101 2nd St. NE. The kids race takes place in historic downtown Montgomery near the intersection of 1st St. N and Boulevard Ave. NW/NE, with race-day registration handled at the Center Stage Dance parking lot.
Pre-registration and late or walk-up registration options are available by paper form or online. Entry fees listed are $25 per person for pre-registration and $30 per person for late or walk-up registration for the 5K and the 2-mile walk; the kids race lists $13 pre-registration and $18 late or walk-up. Only pre-registered participants are guaranteed a T-shirt. Awards include 1st through 3rd place medals for all age groups and special prizes for overall male and female top finishers. The event publishes results and maintains historical top times; since 2013 recorded 5K times have reached as low as 15:42 for men and 18:29 for women.
