Circle the Lake
Circle the Lake takes runners along the shores of Circle Lake in rural Rice County, Minnesota, about 20 minutes south of Burnsville. The courses run over rolling hills on a mix of paved and dirt roads and provide views of the lake island and local wildlife, including bald eagles, osprey, deer, ducks, and pelicans. Part of the route follows Dodd Road, a lane with historical significance, and the event starts and ends at the historic Millersburg School House.
Distances offered:
- Half marathon
- 10K
- 5K
All races are chip timed. Posted mile markers and water and sports drinks are available throughout the courses. The event welcomes competitive racers, families, children, seniors, and dogs, and is iPod friendly with the usual caution about remaining aware of traffic. The half marathon includes several large hills. The event is held about two weeks before the Twins Cities Marathon and is used by some runners as part of their training schedule. This is a charity event sponsored by the Circle Lake Association, with proceeds directed to projects that improve the lake watershed. After the race a complimentary drink is provided at Boonie’s Grill. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
