Circle the Lake Half Marathon, 5K, 10K
The Circle the Lake event on Saturday, September 19, 2026, offers three distances around Circle Lake in rural Rice County, Minnesota. Courses run over rolling hills on a mix of paved and dirt roads and provide views of the lake island and local wildlife. It is possible to spot bald eagles, osprey, deer, ducks, and pelicans along the route.
The race starts and ends at the historic Millersburg School House and follows part of Dodd Road, a route with historical significance. All races are chip timed, have posted mile markers, and offer water and sports drinks at points along the course. The event is open to competitive racers, families, kids, seniors, and dogs, and is iPod friendly; participants wearing headphones are asked to remain aware of their surroundings.
Proceeds support the Circle Lake Association and lake watershed projects. Last year the event raised over $32,000, which funded three new aerators to reduce invasive weeds and algae and to promote a healthier fish habitat. The event is held two weeks before the Twin Cities Marathon and is used by some runners as part of their marathon training.
