5inco De Miles
5inco De Miles y Las Millas de Oro SD is a festive running event held in the Chula Vista Bayfront to celebrate Cinco de Mayo. Located at Bayside Park, the event is designed to provide more mile-based racing opportunities for the South Bay San Diego community. The course is positioned along a scenic waterfront area and accommodates participants with various goals, from those seeking fast times to those participating for leisure.
Participants can choose from several event distances and categories:
- 5K: A 3.1-mile course open to all runners and walkers.
- Open Milla de Oro SD: A one-mile race for participants aged 39 and under.
- Master Milla de Oro: A one-mile race designated for athletes aged 40 and over.
- Kids 1k Fun Run / Kids' Mile: Running events tailored for children aged 13 and under.
- Dogs y La Milla de Oro SD: An untimed one-mile event for individuals participating alongside their pets.
The event is inspired by Mexican heritage and the Battle of Puebla, aiming to integrate local culture with athletic competition. Proceeds from the Doggy Mile category are donated to Kane’s K9s & Animal Rescue, a local nonprofit organization that supports abandoned and at-risk animals. Virtual options for both the 5K and the mile distances are also available for those unable to attend in person at the Chula Vista location.
