Mt Feathertop - Day 2, Bright Alpine Climb
The Mt Feathertop day of the Bright Alpine Climb is scheduled for Sunday 1 November 2026 and starts from Tavare Park in Harrietville. The course is 12.0 km long with approximately 1650 m of vertical climb. Runners follow the Bungalow Spur Track to the summit of Mt Feathertop, passing Federation Hut on the way. In the event of adverse weather the course may be shortened to finish at Federation Hut at the 11 km mark.
The event does not provide food or water on course. Water is available from the Federation Hut tank but it is untreated and should be used with caution. Participants are expected to be self-sufficient for nutrition and hydration for the time they will be on the mountain. Walkers are given a recommended minimum pace of about 25–30 minutes per kilometre.
Facilities near the start include public toilets across the footbridge and portable toilets. A coffee van will be located outside Mountain View Retreat across the footbridge from Race HQ. Local organisers request that vehicles are not parked in Pioneer Park adjacent to Tavare Park; parking is requested along Feathertop Track adjacent to Tavare Park.
Participants must check in at the start line where their number will be recorded, and must check in again at the event HQ on return so organisers know they are safely off the mountain. If planning to descend via an alternative route (NW Spur or Razorback), participants must notify the race director so event staff can record their plans. A course map and GPX file are provided by the organisers. Volunteer roles are listed for sweepers, de-marking, general marshals and registration assistance.
