Menzis 4 Mijl van Groningen
The Menzis 4 Mijl van Groningen is a running event held annually in the second weekend of October. The route covers a distance of 6.4 km (4 miles), starting in Haren and finishing at the Vismarkt in the center of Groningen. The event has been organized since 1987 and attracts thousands of spectators and participants along the course, which features musical entertainment.
The event offers several categories for participation:
- 4 Mijl individual recreational run
- Competition run (Wedstrijdloop)
- Business run (Bedrijvenloop)
- Youth run (Jeugdloop) for ages 6 to 18
- Kids First Mini 4 Mijl for children aged 4 to 11
Participants in most categories receive a BibTag for electronic time registration. The official results are based on gross time, though net personal times are also provided. A water station is located at the Sterrebos, and water is available at the finish line. All participants receive a commemorative medal, which can be engraved with a name and finish time at the Westerhaven for a fee.
Facilities include changing areas and bag storage at Sportcentrum Beatrixoord in Haren. Bags are transported to the finish via clothing trucks assigned to specific start waves.
