Event Details
The 3 Chaparrals 3/6 Hour Endurance Trail Run is a fixed-time event. Participants aim to cover the greatest possible distance within a chosen duration of either 3 hours or 6 hours. Only fully completed laps on the 4-mile loop course will count toward the final distance.
Course
The event takes place in Palo Duro Canyon State Park. The course is the 4-mile Kiowa/Comanche Loop, which starts and finishes at the Mack Dick Pavilion. Organizers note that portions of the trail can be quite technical.
Relay Option
A 6-hour relay option is available for teams of 2-3 runners. Teams work to complete as many 4-mile loops as possible. Exchanges must occur in a designated zone with a timing chip pass. Each team member must complete at least one loop. No new loops may be started after 5 hours and 35 minutes into the event.
Aid and Logistics
One aid station is located at the start/finish area. It will provide water, an electrolyte drink mix, soda, pickle juice, gels, and snacks. This is a cupless event, so participants must bring their own hydration system. A designated area is available for personal canopies or tents.
Awards
Awards are presented for the 6-hour and 3-hour individual events to the top overall male and female runners, as well as the top male and female masters runners (over 50). Awards for the 6-hour relay are given to the top all-male, all-female, and mixed teams. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
