Event overview
The 1/2 Sauer 1/2 Kraut is a road race held in Pennypack Park, Philadelphia, PA on June 6, 2026. The event offers two distance options:
- 13.1 miles
- 26.2 miles
Entry fees differ by date: early rates are $85 for the full and $79 for the half, increasing to $89 and $85 after May 3, 2026. A portion of entry fees supports the park and local charities. The organizer has a charity partnership with Legacy of Hope and has donated free entries for fundraisers who meet a fundraising goal.
Course, support and logistics
The course follows the paved bike path along Pennypack Creek. It is mostly shaded and mostly flat, with a midsection of short steep rolling hills and a trail segment referred to as "Mount cuckoo." The course has no car traffic and includes mile markers. Timing is by disposable chip.
There are 13 aid stations for the full and 6 for the half; most fluid stations are within 2 miles of each other and provide water and Gatorade. Energy gels are available at mile 8 and 21. Medical support includes an EMT ambulance on site and support bikers on course. Walkers are welcome for the half; the marathon is not recommended for walkers.
Awards, limits and post-race
All finishers receive a finisher medal. Overall and age-group awards include clocks and traditional German weather houses. A time limit of 6 hours 30 minutes applies; this implies a required pace near 14:53 per mile. The organizer may alter or limit the marathon based on temperature and conditions. Post-race refreshments and German-style entertainment take place at the Ed Kelly Amphitheater in Pennypack Park. Swag for preregistered runners includes a long-sleeve 1/4 zip performance top.
