About the race

Beaver Flat 50 is a 50 kilometre trail race on narrow animal tracks with a total vertical ascent and descent of 2,255 metres. The course is 100% trail and runs over varied surfaces including rock, sand, juniper, cacti and water crossings. The route is described as physically demanding with wet shoes, ankle strain and scratched shins commonly reported by participants.

The course is broken into named legs with the following segments:

  • Horseshoe: 11.2 km, 450 m elevation
  • Spring Coulee: 4.8 km, 178 m elevation (cumulative 16 km)
  • Weetman: 7 km, 444 m elevation (cumulative 23 km)
  • Goodwin: 9.5 km, 396 m elevation (cumulative 33 km)
  • Beaver Banter: 10.4 km, 449 m elevation (cumulative 43.5 km)
  • Home Before Dark: 6 km, 297 m elevation (cumulative 49.5 km)

Aid stations are located at several points along the course, including Barlow (11 km), Windsor Knot (16 km), Wheatman (23 km), Goodwin House (33 km, drop bag location) and Knock Knock Joke (43.5 km). Some aid stations have cut-off times. Goodwin House is identified as the last logical place to withdraw; runners are advised that feet will get wet a few kilometres before this point.

A GPX file and a racer handbook are available for the course. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
