About the race
The Kootenay Fun 5 is an annual community 5 km fun run held in Cranbrook that donates net proceeds to sport and technology initiatives at Kootenay Christian Academy. The event is in its eleventh year and includes two race options:
- 5 km fun run
- Last One Standing Backyard Ultramarathon
The course begins and finishes on the school field at Kootenay Christian Academy, 1100 Kootenay Street N, and follows local streets including Kootenay Street N, 30th Ave. N., Stahl Road, Kokanee Drive and Rotary Way before returning to the school property. Surfaces are paved or packed gravel and the route is stroller-friendly; stroller-pushers are asked to start with the walkers. Water stations are located at the start/finish area and at the halfway point. Course marshals and first aid attendants will be stationed along the route and connected to the main first aid station.
Registration is handled through Eventbrite; confirmation is sent by email. Refunds are not available but registrations may be transferred through Eventbrite prior to race day. Race packages include a timing chip attached to the paper bib; the chip is disposable and the bib may be kept as a souvenir. T-shirts and swag bags are provided to the first 500 registrants and shirt sizes cannot be changed at package pick-up. Awards include medals for the top three male and female finishers in each age group and additional prizes for overall male and female winners. The event typically expects 600 or more participants.
