Polar Night Marathon 2027
The Polar Night Marathon is a winter running event held in Tromsø. Known as Norway's largest winter run, the event takes place during the polar night period, shortly before the sun returns to the region. Participants run in the afternoon daylight, characterized by a distinct blue Arctic light, and may have the opportunity to observe the northern lights.
The event is a member of AIMS, and the marathon distance is officially measured and certified. The route is illuminated by spectators and candles, with courses passing through the streets of the city. In previous years, the event has attracted thousands of runners representing scores of different nations.
Participants can choose from four different distances:
- Ishavskraft Marathon (42.2 km)
- Polar Night Half Marathon (21.1 km)
- Mørketidsmila (10 km)
- Mørketidstrimmen (5 km)
The marathon offers a unique finisher medal to participants. The courses are set in a mid-winter environment surrounded by starlight and the atmospheric lighting of Tromsø. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
