Zoo Move & Groove 5K
The Phoenix Zoo presents a timed 5K event on Saturday, January 16, 2027, that runs through Papago Park and into the ZooLights display. Registered participants receive a commemorative race t-shirt, ZooLights admission and a cup of hot cocoa. A commemorative medal and additional shirts are available for purchase.
Event experiences include up-close animal encounters before the run and lakeside activities after the finish. The ZooLights program features illuminated displays, glowing lanterns, a Lake Lights show with a floating tree, and paid attractions such as carousel and camel rides. Awards are planned for the top three finishers.
Packet pick up is at Road Runner Sports at Tempe Marketplace, 43 S McClintock Dr., Tempe, AZ 85288, on Tuesday, January 12, 2027 and Wednesday, January 13, 2027; packets will also be available on race day at the registration tent.
Pricing tiers listed by the organizer range from $35 to $65 for race registrations, with a spectator ZooLights admission only option at $20. Children aged two and under are free; only paying athletes receive a shirt and food or beverage. Additional fees may apply for optional items and attractions.
Funds raised through the event will support completion of the Doornbos Animal Rescue and Care Center, a planned 9,800‑square‑foot facility with quarantine, medical observation and recovery spaces and capacity to assist partner organizations. The event includes organized fundraising tiers and rewards tied to donation levels. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
