You Matter 5K
The You Matter 5K is a community running event held on the Purdue University Fort Wayne campus. Organized by Chi Eta Sigma, the honor society of the graduate counseling program, the race focuses on raising awareness for suicide prevention and mental health. All proceeds from the event support these initiatives and provide funding for continuing education for graduate counseling students who intend to serve communities across Northeast Indiana.
The course features one main distance:
- 3.1 Miles (5K)
Participants encounter personalized signs along the route featuring messages of hope, encouragement, and remembrance. These signs are contributed by sponsors and participants to honor loved ones or support mental health. The event includes specific stops and activities located throughout the course for those participating in the movement.
Registration for the event includes a You Matter 5K t-shirt and a finisher token. Participants who register by a specific mid-August deadline are guaranteed a shirt. The race provides a platform for people to support friends or run in memory of others while investing in the professional training of future counselors. The route utilizes the campus grounds, starting at the East Coliseum Boulevard location in Fort Wayne. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
