About the race
The You Matter 5K is a 3.1 mile running event held on September 12, 2026 on the Purdue Fort Wayne campus at 2101 E Coliseum Blvd, Fort Wayne, Indiana. The event is organized by Chi Eta Sigma, the honor society of the graduate counseling program at Purdue Fort Wayne, and raises awareness for suicide prevention and mental health while funding continuing education opportunities for graduate counseling students. Packet pickup is located outside the Walb Student Union under the sky bridge, and parking is available in Parking Garage 1 on the Purdue Fort Wayne campus with signs directing to packet pickup. Registration opens March 16, 2026 and closes May 31, 2026; the registration fee is $25.00.
Registered participants receive race entry, a You Matter 5K t-shirt (guaranteed for registrations completed by August 16), and a finisher token. The course includes signs bearing personalized messages submitted by sponsors and participants that appear along the route. Event day offerings include vendors, raffles, coffee, temporary tattoos, a braid bar, and other on-site activities. All proceeds support mental health awareness initiatives and continuing education for graduate counseling students at Purdue Fort Wayne through Chi Eta Sigma.
