WWII Veterans Memorial Trail Weighted Race
The WWII Veterans Memorial Trail Weighted Race is the third annual running event on Mansfield, MA's WWII Veterans Memorial Trail. The trail is dedicated to the men and women who traveled along the former Old Colony Railroad Line from the staging area at Camp Myles Standish in Taunton to the Boston port of embarkation.
The event uses a weighted race format with a six hour time limit. Competitors complete as many laps as possible on an out-and-back course of at least 2 1/2 miles. Course surfaces include paved, gravel and grass sections. Participants carry a pack, plate carrier, or other weight; that weight is measured at the start and finish of each lap and the lower measurement is used to calculate the score for that lap.
Scoring multiplies the lap distance by the measured weight to produce pound-miles, called Kz. For example, carrying 30 pounds for a 2.5 mile lap yields 75 Kz for that lap. Racers may add, reduce, or keep the same weight between laps. The final lap must be completed before the six hour clock expires. The competitor with the highest total Kz in each division is the winner. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
