Event Overview
The WVS Cherry Blossom 5 Mile Run takes place on April 26, 2026, at Kirby Park in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania. The event is timed to coincide with the park's cherry trees being in full bloom and occurs during the Cherry Blossom Festival weekend.
Course and Timing
The course for the 5-mile run is described as fast and flat. It follows a macadam pavement path on a dike, in an out-and-back configuration. The start and finish are in a meadow area within Kirby Park. The race uses chip timing.
Registration and Fees
Registration must be completed online; race-day entries are not accepted. Online registration closes on April 24, 2026, at noon. The standard pre-entry fee is $25 for non-members and $20 for members of the Wyoming Valley Striders (WVS). These fees increase on April 1, 2026, to $30 for non-members and $25 for members. Registration is non-refundable and non-transferable. A race membership for WVS is available for $12, which provides a discount code for registration.
Event Day
Packet pickup for pre-registered runners begins at 7:30 a.m. at the pavilion inside Kirby Park. Runners will receive a commemorative gift. Awards are given to the top overall male and female finishers, as well as the top three males and top three females in each of multiple age categories.
Rules and Policies
The event has several rules: no animals are permitted, baby strollers of any type are not allowed, and alcoholic beverages are not permitted in Kirby Park. If the race is cancelled due to directives from the facility or the organizing club, pre-entries will be deferred to the following year, with no refunds issued.
