Wörthersee Marathon
The Wörthersee Marathon is a road running event held in the heart of Austria, featuring a course that circles the turquoise waters of Lake Wörthersee. The race is included in the World Athletics calendar and offers participants views of both the lake and the surrounding alpine mountains.
The event starts at the Klagenfurt Beach (Klagenfurt lido) and provides several distance options:
- Marathon: A complete lap around the lake, alternating between hilly sections on the south shore and faster, flatter sections.
- Half Marathon: A route following the Süduferstrasse to Velden, finishing at the historic Schlosshotel Velden.
The event is open to various participation styles, as those who prefer to walk can also complete the loop around the lake. The course is equipped with refreshment points, cheering zones, and medical assistance. After the race, the Runner’s Beach Club serves as a gathering area for participants, and all finishers receive a commemorative medal.
The race route transitions through varied terrain, combining scenic landscapes with athletic infrastructure. Timing services are provided by Endu to ensure official results for all participants. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
