Event Overview
The Wings for Life World Run is a global running event held in London Battersea, United Kingdom. This competition features a unique format for both runners and wheelchair participants, where athletes do not race toward a traditional finish line. Instead, participants run to stay ahead of a Virtual Catcher Car.
Course and Format
The event takes place at the Battersea Park track. Participants use a mobile application to track their progress and interact with the Virtual Catcher Car. This digital vehicle begins its pursuit 30 minutes after the initial start at a speed of 14 km/h. The car gradually increases its speed at set intervals until it passes every participant. Once an athlete is overtaken by the Virtual Catcher Car, their individual race concludes.
Participation and Facilities
The venue is accessible for wheelchair participants. The local organization provides several amenities for those taking part in the London Battersea event:
- A refreshment station and local set up
- Timing services and race numbers
- Track facilities at Battersea Park
The event serves as a fundraiser for spinal cord research, with 100% of entry fees and donations directed toward research projects. Participants are required to use the official mobile app to take part in the race. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
