Houston MKT Heights - App Run Event
The Wings for Life World Run in Houston is part of a global movement where participants run simultaneously to support spinal cord research. This event takes place in the MKT Heights area of Texas. It is structured as an App Run, meaning participants use a mobile application to track their progress and distance during the race.
The course is located along the MKT and Bayou Heights Trail, providing a dedicated path for the activity. The event is designed to be accessible, and it welcomes wheelchair participants to take part in the race alongside other runners. A refreshment station is provided as part of the local set up for the event.
One distinct feature of this race is the absence of a traditional finish line. Instead, participants must stay ahead of a Virtual Catcher Car. This digital vehicle begins moving 30 minutes after the start of the race. It starts at a speed of 14 km/h and gradually increases its pace until every runner has been overtaken. When the Virtual Catcher Car passes a participant, their race is concluded. All entry fees collected for this event are directed toward spinal cord research projects.
