Event Overview
The Wings for Life World Run is a global charity event where participants run, walk, or roll for a cause. The London App Run Event takes place at Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, with the gathering point situated near the Brew Street Cafe. This unique race format does not utilize a traditional finish line. Instead, athletes compete against a Virtual Catcher Car through the mobile app.
Race Format and Course
The event is held on a 2.5 km loop within the park grounds. Participants move at their own pace until they are overtaken by the Virtual Catcher Car. This virtual vehicle begins its pursuit 30 minutes after the start at an initial speed of 14 km/h. The car gradually increases its speed at set intervals until every participant has been caught, which concludes their individual race.
Accessibility and Participation
The event is fully accessible for wheelchair participants. All participants use the Wings for Life World Run App to track their progress and distance. The following features are available on-site:
- Refreshment station
- Local event setup
- Timing and race numbers
The total amount of entry fees and donations collected is directed toward spinal cord research projects. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
