The Wings for Life World Run is a global event where participants compete simultaneously in different locations across the world. In Australia, an App Run event takes place in Pinnaroo, South Australia. The race serves a charitable purpose, with every entry fee and donation going toward spinal cord research projects.
The event features a unique format without a traditional stationary finish line. Instead, participants use a mobile application to track their progress while being pursued by a Virtual Catcher Car. The chase begins 30 minutes after the start, initially traveling at 14 km/h and gradually increasing its speed. When the digital car overtakes a runner or wheelchair user, their race is complete.
The course in Pinnaroo is set on local town streets and sidewalks. This specific event is designed to be accessible for wheelchair participants. The organizers provide a refreshment station and a local setup for athletes. Participants must use the official mobile app to receive their timing, race number, and live updates during the run.
