Wiley Canyon Ultra : Lexington, Nebraska

The Wiley Canyon Ultra weekend features multiple running distances in Lexington, Nebraska, with start and finish at Kirkpatrick Memorial Park.

Available distances:

  • Approximately 35 miles ultra out-and-back
  • 10K
  • 5K

The 5K and 10K routes use paved and gravel roads and are noncompetitive. The ultra is an out-and-back course that leaves town and follows gravel roads north through Wiley Canyon. The route begins on blacktop, transitions to gravel, and includes a short section on a minimum maintenance road. Hills are present once runners reach Wiley Canyon Road. Aid stations on the ultra are placed roughly every 4 to 5 miles and provide Tailwind Nutrition endurance fuel, water, and snacks. There are no aid stations for the 5K or 10K.

Awards and participant items: trophies for first through third place in men’s and women’s divisions apply only to the ultra. All ultra finishers receive a medal. Each registered runner receives an event t-shirt; sizes are guaranteed for registrations and apparel purchases made by August 1, 2026.

Rules and equipment: the event is self-supported on course; outside crew and caching are not permitted. One drop bag is allowed at the halfway aid station and must be clearly labeled with name and bib number. Shoes are required. Ultra runners must carry a headlamp meeting a 200 lumen minimum while running before sunrise. Reflective or high-visibility gear is required when appropriate. Runners must stay to the right, obey traffic laws, remain on or next to the road, and avoid littering; littering leads to disqualification.

Safety and logistics: expect hot, exposed conditions with limited shade and possible limited cell service on parts of Wiley Canyon Road. The ultra enforces a course cutoff equivalent to about an 18 minute per mile pace. The organizer may cancel for severe conditions; entry fees are nonrefundable, though optional third-party coverage is available to protect an individual’s entry fee for personal reasons.
