Wiley Canyon Ultra
The Wiley Canyon Ultra is scheduled for August 29, 2026 in Lexington, Nebraska, with events at Kirkpatrick Memorial Park. Distances offered include:
- 35 mile ultramarathon out and back
- 10K route
- 5K route
The 35 mile ultramarathon leaves from Kirkpatrick Memorial Park and travels north through Wiley Canyon. The course was laid out to provide multiple aid stations and to support runners attempting an ultramarathon. The 5K and 10K start and finish at Kirkpatrick Memorial Park; those two distances use paved and gravel roads and are described as noncompetitive.
Road surfaces change from town blacktop to gravel and a short section of minimum maintenance road. Although the region is generally flat, participants will encounter hills on Wiley Canyon Road. Course exposure is high with little shade typical of August in Nebraska.
Aid stations for the ultra are planned about every 4 to 5 miles and will carry Tailwind Nutrition fuel, water, and snacks. No aid stations are provided for the 5K or 10K. One labeled drop bag is allowed at the halfway aid station (around mile 17) and will be returned to the finish. Shoes are required. Ultra participants must use a headlamp prior to sunrise with a minimum 200 lumen output and wear visible reflective gear while running in low light.
Event check in and packet pickup are scheduled the day before the race at the Grand Generation Center in Lexington. The organizer may cancel for safety reasons; entry fees are nonrefundable though credit toward a future date and event shirts are offered if the race is canceled. A separate refund guarantee option is available to cover personal inability to participate and does not cover event cancellation. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
