Whyalla Running Festival
The Whyalla Running Festival is an annual sporting event held at the Whyalla Foreshore. The festival features multiple course distances to accommodate different participants:
- Half Marathon (21.1 km)
- 10.5 km
- 5 km
- 1.5 km Kids Race
The courses are designed as flat out-and-back loops. Participants travel along the foreshore and complete a lap of the jetty. The Half Marathon consists of two laps of the 10.5 km course. Water points and course marshals are positioned throughout the route to support those taking part.
The event is officially timed using sensors and race bibs. Results are made available online immediately after participants cross the finish line. While there are no formal cut-off times, the event organizers aim for all participants to return within three hours for the Half Marathon to attend the presentations.
Participants have access to a bag drop area at the registration tent for personal belongings. At the finish line, fruit and water are provided. All finishers across all distances receive a commemorative medal. Prizes are awarded to the top three male and female finishers in the Half Marathon, as well as winners in age-specific categories and the first-place finishers in the shorter distances.
The festival weekend includes a shakeout run on the Saturday at the Whyalla Foreshore Parkrun, followed by an evening bib collection and pasta/pizza social event. On race day, vehicle access to the starting area is restricted due to road closures on Beach Road, with parking available near Ada Ryan Gardens and the Foreshore motel.
