Washpool Trail Run
Washpool Trail Run is a multi-distance trail running event held at Mulligans Campground in Gibraltar Range National Park, within the World Heritage-listed Washpool and Gibraltar Range parks. Courses pass through rainforest, granite outcrops, creeks and the Tree Fern Forest Walk, and include sections near Coombadjha Creek and Boundary Falls.
Distances
- 50 km Ultra with about +1,250 m / -1,250 m ascent
- 25 km with about +450 m / -450 m ascent
- 9 km with about +240 m / -240 m ascent
The event is a cupless event; participants must bring a reusable cup or soft flask. There is no phone reception throughout the courses or at the finish area. Mandatory gear is checked at bib collection and must be carried during the run; required items include water capacity (minimum 1 litre, higher capacity recommended in heat), emergency food, snake bandage, space blanket, emergency whistle and a charged mobile phone with offline AVENZA and Emergency Plus maps. Random gear checks may occur and failure to carry mandatory gear leads to disqualification.
Aid stations, drop bag availability and toilets vary by distance; the 50 km course has aid stations and two drop bag locations, while the shorter courses offer finish-area support and drop bags at the finish. Parking at Mulligans Campground is limited and a National Parks day use fee of $8 per vehicle is payable in cash. Finishers receive the event hat; no medals are awarded. Minimum ages: 50 km 18 years, 25 km 14 years, 9 km 12 years. No prior qualification is required; the event awards ITRA points. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
