The Warrington Transport Trail Half Marathon

The Warrington Transport Trail Half Marathon is a circular road and trail event that starts and finishes at Grappenhall & Thelwall Royal British Legion Club in Thelwall. The event is scheduled for Sunday 18 October 2026 and follows a route that links several local waterways and historic transport features.

The course follows the Trans Pennine Trail for the opening mile, crosses the swing bridge at Latchford beside the lock gates, then runs alongside the Manchester Ship Canal to Woolston Weir and the first River Mersey crossing. Runners then follow the former towpath of the New Cut Canal toward Paddington Bank, rejoin the River Mersey to Kingsway Bridge, pass along the filled in Black Bear Canal and rejoin the Manchester Ship Canal toward Walton Gardens. The route continues via Hough’s Lane onto the Bridgewater Canal and runs along an old railway line now part of the Trans Pennine Trail for the final section back to the club.

Facilities and services listed for the event include waymarked and marshalled course sections, a water station near Morrisons at approximately the halfway point, finishers medals and an optional technical T‑shirt available at online entry, on-site and nearby street parking, toilets and showers at the club, free post race hot food and free pre race hot drinks, and a bar open after the race. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
