Walking Tall 50/25K - Big Hill Pond State Park
Walking Tall takes place on October 17, 2026 in Pocahontas, Tennessee. The event offers two distance options:
- 50K (about 31 miles)
- 25K (about 15.5 miles)
Both courses are made up almost entirely of single track trail with only a little park road. The route includes a swamp boardwalk that crosses more than half a mile and a prominent fire tower feature. Runners who climb to the top of the tower and get their bib punched there receive a special challenge coin; an alternative stair sequence on the first floor can be completed for a valid finish. To place in the top three or to set a course record, competitors must reach the top of the tower.
Aid stations are placed at measured mile points. The 25K has full aid at miles 6.5, 9.6, and 12.5. The 50K shares the 25K route before a split, where a drop bag and a full aid station are available, then continues with full aid at miles 15.5 (drop bag), 18.4, 23.0, 26.1, and 27.5.
The event enforces time limits: a 9 hour cutoff for the 50K and an 8 hour cutoff for the 25K, and there is a course cut at the inbound railroad tracks at mile 26.1. The course rates a 3 for elevation change and a 3 for surface. Year round camping is available at Big Hill Pond. The race operates as a not for profit event with 100% of proceeds to charity, split 90% to Big Hill Pond and 10% to the Tennessee Park Rangers Association. The organizer does not offer refunds or deferrals; if sold out, bibs may be donated or transferred. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
