Event details

Walking Tall 50/25K takes place on October 17, 2026 at Big Hill Pond State Park in Pocahontas, TN (1435 John Howell Rd). The event offers the following distances:

  • 50K - 31 miles
  • 25K - 15.5 miles

Course and support

Both courses are made up almost entirely of single-track trail with a small amount of park road. The route includes a fire tower that participants may climb; runners who climb to the top and get their bib punched there receive a special challenge coin. The 25K has full aid stations at miles 6.5, 9.6, and 12.5. The 50K shares the 25K route early, then continues on the other side of the park; full aid stations are at miles 15.5 (drop bag), 18.4, 23.0, 26.1, and 27.5.

Rules and logistics

The event enforces time limits: a 9 hour cut for the 50K and an 8 hour cut for the 25K. There is a course cut at the inbound railroad tracks located at mile 26.1. Runners may not change distances during the event. The race does not offer refunds or deferrals; if sold out, bibs can be donated to the park or transferred to a named person via organizer approval. Year-round camping is available at Big Hill Pond. The event is not for profit; 100% of proceeds go to charity, with 90% to Big Hill Pond and 10% to the Tennessee Park Rangers Association. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
