Walking Tall 50/25K - Big Hill Pond State Park
Walking Tall is a trail event held in Pocahontas, Tennessee, offering two main race distances.
- 50K, about 31 miles, almost entirely single-track trail
- 25K, about 15.5 miles, almost entirely single-track trail
The course runs mostly on single-track with only a little park road. Notable features include a fire tower that competitors may climb for a special challenge coin if they have their bib punched at the top, and a swamp boardwalk that stretches for over half a mile. The 50K follows the 25K course until a campground split where a drop bag option and a full aid station are available before the second half of the 50K.
Aid station locations are published separately. The 25K has full aid stations at miles 6.5, 9.6, and 12.5. The 50K lists full aid stations and a drop bag at approximately miles 15.5, 18.4, 23.0, 26.1, and 27.5.
The event uses Ultra Magazine rating standards: elevation change rated 3 and surface rated 3. It is organized as a not for profit event with 100 percent of proceeds to charity, allocated 90 percent to Big Hill Pond and 10 percent to the Tennessee Park Rangers Association. The race enforces time limits, including a strict nine hour limit for the 50K and an eight hour limit for the 25K. Year round camping is available at Big Hill Pond State Park.
