Walking Tall 50/25K - Big Hill Pond State Park
Walking Tall is a trail event scheduled for October 17, 2026 at Big Hill Pond State Park near Pocahontas, Tennessee. The event offers two measured distances on courses made up almost entirely of single track trail with only a short section of park road.
- 50K - 31 miles, mostly single track trail
- 25K - 15.5 miles, mostly single track trail
Course highlights include a fire tower that runners may climb, and a swamp boardwalk that runs for more than half a mile. The fire tower is optional for finishers who prefer not to climb to the top; runners who do climb and get their bib punched at the top receive an additional challenge coin. The 50K course follows the 25K route until the finish split, then continues around the other side of Big Hill Pond with a drop bag location noted at mile 15.5.
Aid station details are provided for both distances. The 25K has full aid stations at miles 6.5, 9.6, and 12.5. The 50K has full aid stations and a drop bag point at miles 15.5, 18.4, 23.0, 26.1, and 27.5. The event enforces time limits: a nine hour cut for the 50K and an eight hour cut for the 25K; runners should be prepared for the required average pace. The event is run as a not for profit, with proceeds allocated to park and park-related organizations. Year-round camping is available at Big Hill Pond State Park.
