Virgil Crest Ultras
Virgil Crest Ultras is a trail ultramarathon event in Cortland, NY held on September 12, 2026. The course features steep ascents and descents with significant cumulative elevation change. Runners will encounter singletrack forest and sections of less technical footing that allow runners to flow where possible. Sunrise views from the opening climb are noted as part of the route experience.
The event uses a repeat circuit or loop format to allow easier crew access and to increase interaction among participants. Course routing will differ from prior years and organizers plan to provide maps and updates before the race. The course includes climbing and may be affected by weather.
Support and logistics information includes planned crew access to the start and finish area and at least one crew accessible aid station on course. Organizers permit pacers for the 100 mile distance at or after 50 miles or at nightfall. Poles are allowed for all entrants; entrants over 50 miles who used poles in 2021 reported them as beneficial. If poles are left at an aid station they must fit inside a drop bag for retrieval.
