Van Buren Popcorn Festival Kernel 5K
The Van Buren Popcorn Festival Kernel 5K is part of the town’s annual Popcorn Festival and is scheduled for August 8, 2026, in Van Buren, Indiana. The starting line is on Indiana State Road 5 in front of the Van Buren Library and the finish line is in front of the Popcorn Festival Grandstand.
The course is well marked, flat, and paved. Organizers provide traffic control and water stations along the route. After the race, fruit and drinks are available at the grandstand.
The event originated in 1987 with the objective of encouraging participation in a healthy activity while promoting the Popcorn Festival. Attendance has increased since the first year. The Van Buren Popcorn Festival Committee runs the event on a volunteer basis.
Registration includes individual and family options for participants from the same household. Awards are given to the overall first place male and female finishers, first place masters male and female finishers 40 and over, and the oldest male and female finishers. The first 50 registered and paid 5K Run/Walk participants receive a free t-shirt. Age group categories are 18 and under, 19-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, and 70 and above.
