UC Marathon
The UC Marathon is a USATF certified road race hosted by the University of Charleston in partnership with the City of Charleston and the Charleston Convention & Visitors Bureau. The event features a fast, flat 26.2-mile course certified for Boston Marathon qualification and suitable for earning qualifying times for other major races. An interactive course map shows the full route with key landmarks and mile markers.
The route guides runners through Downtown Charleston, the historic Elk City district, Kanawha City, and the University of Charleston riverfront campus. The inaugural marathon attracted 785 runners from 40 states and three countries. The second UC Marathon is scheduled for April 11, 2027.
Event weekend includes pre-race and post-race activities across Downtown Charleston, a community spaghetti dinner sponsored by Spilman Thomas & Battle, medical services from Vandalia Health, and media coverage by WOWK-TV. Proceeds from the race support the University of Charleston Honors College.
Travel and logistics information notes the nearest airport as West Virginia International Yeager Airport, about 10 minutes from downtown and the UC Downtown Innovation Hub. For GPS use 240 Capitol Street, Charleston, WV 25301. Downtown parking options include City Center, Summers Street, and Shanklin Garage. Additional shuttle and event parking details are provided closer to race weekend.
