United Way 5k on the Runway
The United Way 5k on the Runway takes place at Lynchburg Regional Airport in Virginia. The event is scheduled for Saturday, April 25, 2026. The start is at the General Aviation Terminal located at 982 Airport Road.
The 5k course follows a taxiway parallel to the main airport runway and is described as flat and fast. The event is open to participants aged 8 and older who can complete the distance within a 60-minute time limit. Professional timing is provided by Riverside Runners.
There is a participant cap of 700 people. There is no race-day registration. Awards are given to the top three overall male and female finishers, the top master (40+) male and female, and the top three in each age/gender category. All official finishers receive a medal.
Packet pickup occurs on Friday, April 24, 2026, at Riverside Runners and on Saturday, April 25, at the airport terminal before the event. Spectators can access a special viewing area for a fee.
Important policies for the event include:
- No strollers, skateboards, rollerblades, bikes, or pets are allowed on the course due to airport restrictions.
- Headphones are not permitted for safety reasons.
