United Way 5k on the Runway
The United Way 5K on the Runway takes place on April 25, 2026, at Lynchburg Regional Airport, 982 Airport Road, Lynchburg, VA. The event is a measured 5K open to participants ages 8 and older who can complete the distance within a 60 minute time limit. The course is described as flat and follows the airport taxiway parallel to the main runway.
Timing and participant limits are enforced. The race will be professionally timed by Riverside Runners. Participants who do not reach 2.5 miles by 38:00 (15:00 per mile pace) or who are judged unable to finish before the course closes will be removed and provided transportation back to the finish area. The event has a participant cap; once that cap is reached registrations will close.
Equipment and safety rules include no strollers, skateboards, rollerblades, bicycles, or pets on the taxiway, and headphones are not permitted on course. Assisted athletes are welcome; both the assisted athlete and the pusher must register and each will pay half price for registration. Assisted athletes receive a 3–5 minute advance start and reserved parking spaces near the event.
Packet pickup is scheduled the day before at Riverside Runners and on race day at the Lynchburg Airport General Aviation Terminal. Proceeds from the event support the mission of the United Way of Central Virginia. Awards include finisher medals for official 5K finishers and placings by overall, master, and age/gender categories.
