Two Hollows Monster Marathon and Half Marathon
The event offers two trail distances in Kennedy State Forest between Virgil and Harford, NY. The courses follow well-maintained single track and forest roads through the area between Daisy Hollow and Babcock Hollow, with shady hemlock groves, fern-carpeted hardwoods, a few long views, and several sustained hills including one located in the final two miles of each 13.1-mile loop. The half-marathon is one 13.1-mile loop; the marathon is two laps of that loop.
The race uses age and gender staggered start times, including a nonbinary category, with head starts determined by age-grading tables. The marathon has substantial elevation gain; the half-marathon includes about 2,200 feet of gain (the full marathon doubles that). The course is marked with pink flags and colored blazes, aid stations are located roughly every 3 to 4 miles, and the event is cupless so all runners must carry personal hydration. Port-a-potties are available near the start/finish and a postrace lunch is provided for participants and volunteers.
Online pre-registration is required; there is no same-day or in-person race-day registration. Marathon entrants must meet two time cutoffs (one at the halfway point and one later on the course) and will not be allowed to continue if they miss them. No dogs, headphones, or jogging strollers are permitted on the course. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
