Freedom Run Presented by UnityPoint Health
The Freedom Run Presented by UnityPoint Health is a military themed running event in East Moline on August 13, 2026. The event uses visible military elements throughout the course and at the finish, including an authentic Civil War cannon at the start, a WWII Army jeep as the pace vehicle, military vehicles along the route, more than 100 American flags on the course, soldier statue trophies, and dog-tag finish medals.
The event offers multiple race formats and participant options:
- 5K Run/Walk
- Tyson Double-Time Loop 5.8 miles
- 1 Mile Run/Walk
- IHMVCU Brigade Kids Races
- Ground Pounder Fun Run kid obstacle course
- M.I.A. Division support registration with mailed packet option
The 5K route passes through St Anne Church, Hillcrest School, Mitchell Park neighborhoods, Ridgewood School, and returns downtown. The course includes one hill with two gradual inclines and a long downhill before the finish. The Tyson Double-Time Loop follows the same route twice and is listed as 5.8 miles; participants must reach the 3 mile marker by the specified cutoff or will be diverted to finish the 5K course. The 1 mile event is a very flat out and back on 15th Avenue.
Participants receive military themed shirts and dog-tag medals; shirts and sizes are guaranteed only if registered by July 15. All registrations are final; no refunds or transfers are allowed. Proceeds have benefited local veteran outreach programs including Trinity Veteran's Outreach Program, AUSA, and USO Rock Island. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
