TRI Clear Lake

TRI Clear Lake is a triathlon event held in Clear Lake, Iowa, and is sanctioned by USA Triathlon. As a state championship race, it features a course that starts and ends in the downtown area, beginning at City Beach. The event includes two main distances for adult competitors:

  • Olympic Distance: 1,500 m swim, 24.8-mile bike, and 6.2-mile run
  • Sprint Distance: 500 m swim, 12.4-mile bike, and 3.1-mile run

The bike segment takes place on a flat course along South Shore Drive, leading athletes past scenic prairies and windmills. The run course follows North Shore Drive, passing local landmarks such as the historic Surf Ballroom and the Lady of the Lake before returning to a lakeside finish in City Park. The finish area features a post-race celebration with music, food, and beverages.

For younger participants, the Youth Splash and Dash is available for ages 7-15. This segment includes a 100-200 meter swim and a 1-2 kilometer run. Adult categories are divided by gender and age groups, with specific divisions for Clydesdale and Athena athletes, as well as relay teams consisting of two to three people. Top finishers in various categories receive awards following the completion of the races.

Packet pickup and race briefings are held the day prior to the main event. In the event of unsafe water conditions, the triathlon transitions to a duathlon format consisting of a run-bike-run sequence. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
