About the race

Trail del Marganai takes place in the Marganai state forest and more broadly in the Linas/Marganai/Fluminese macroarea in southwest Sardinia, in the province of Carbonia-Iglesias. Routes pass through abandoned mining villages and areas of archaeological and natural interest, and touch the territories of Buggerru, Fluminimaggiore, Iglesias and Domusnovas.

The event includes multiple trail distances and a route map that uses color coding for each course. The forest area is part of the Parco naturale di Monte Linas, Marganai-Oridda, Montimannu, which covers about 22,220 hectares and includes parts of Domusnovas, Fluminimaggiore, Gonnosfanadiga, Iglesias and Villacidro.

One notable landscape is the green valley around the Temple of Antas, a Punic-Roman site dedicated to Sardus Pater, with nearby Nuragic remains such as tombs and hut foundations. The organizers state an environmental commitment: the event adheres to the IO NON GETTO I MIEI RIFIUTI campaign and uses high-visibility tape on trails that is removed after the event.
