About the race
The Totten Trot 5K Run/Walk is the 25th annual running event organized by the Bayside Historical Society in Bayside, New York, held on October 25, 2026. The event combines a community 5K foot race and a short Kids' Fun Run, and serves as a fundraiser to support the Bayside Historical Society’s programs, archival collections, and the maintenance of the historic Fort Totten Officers’ Club. Registration for the event includes a Silver Anniversary commemorative T-shirt for those who register three weeks before the race; the T-shirt design was created by the winning student in Bayside High School’s Art Program Contest. Awards include cash prizes for the top three overall male and female finishers and age-group awards across multiple categories.
A best costume prize is offered for 5K participants, and the Kids' Fun Run awards cookie medals to all young participants. The course is USATF certified and follows a waterfront route through Fort Totten Park and the Historic District along Little Neck Bay, with a loop onto Little Bay Path toward the Throgs Neck Bridge and back to the landmarked Officers’ Club where reception and awards are presented. The event welcomes a special guest appearance by the 501st Legion’s Empire City Garrison in Star Wars costumes. Free parking is available in the large lot at the Fort entrance.
