Totem to Totem Haida Marathon
The Totem to Totem Haida Marathon is an annual event held in Skidegate, British Columbia, as part of the Skidegate Days Celebrations. This sports gathering is integrated into a series of Haida community events and features routes along shore roads that provide views of the ocean, eagles, and ravens. The competition is held on a reasonably flat course.
Participants can choose from three different distances:
- Marathon: an out-and-back route from the Haida Heritage Centre to Saint Mary's Spring.
- Half Marathon: an out-and-back run from the Haida Heritage Centre to Miller Creek Road.
- 10 km: an out-and-back course starting at the Haida Heritage Centre and reaching a marked point beyond Balance Rock.
The start and finish lines for all distances are located at the Totem Poles of the Haida Heritage Centre. The event coincides with local cultural activities, as the Skidegate Council schedules the raising of three new Totem Poles in the village during the week of the race and on the day of the event following the arrival of the participants.
