Thunder Bay Cross Country Open 5K
The Thunder Bay Cross Country Open is a community 5K race held on the Alpena High School campus in Alpena, Michigan. The event takes place on Saturday, August 29, 2026, and is scheduled before the second annual AHS Thunder Bay Invite. The course is the new high school cross country layout and uses two 2.5 K loops.
The course combines a traditional wooded cross country trail with stretches of grassy running near the ball fields. The start and finish share the same area and the route is described as well marked. Awards are given to the top 10 female and top 10 male finishers, who receive custom race t shirts.
Online registration opens on August 7 and closes on August 27. The listed online registration fee is $10.00. Day of registration is cash only and the fee is $20. Registration fees are used to support the Alpena Cross Country course and the school team.
