Thirst Responders 5K - Perth, Ontario
The Thirst Responders 5K is a beer run in Perth, Ontario that combines running with drinking beer on course. The event is open to first responders and military members as well as friends and supporters of uniformed services. Participants choose a team from police, fire, paramedics, or military and the individual finish times are aggregated to determine the fastest team.
The format requires runners to drink one 5 oz cup of beer before running a 1.25K loop, then repeat that sequence three more times. Non-alcoholic beer is available. The event is described as a fun run and is not aimed at achieving personal best 5K times.
The loop course crosses three bridges, including the Beckwith Swing Bridge, and starts and ends at the Bridge Master's original house built in 1889. The entry package includes one pint of Bridge Masters Brewing Company beer divided into four cups, a unique finisher medal, and a post-race party with live music. Awards are given to top finishers overall for men and women and to the fastest finishers by branch for men and women. The course has a one hour limit and the race capacity is 160. Race kit pick up takes place at Bridge Masters Brewing Company, 29 Beckwith Street, Perth. A lights and sirens parade proceeds to the start from Beckwith Street Bridge.
