Yellowstone Half Marathon
The event features two race distances held near West Yellowstone, Montana: a 13.1 mile half marathon and a 5K. The courses run on dirt roads and forest service trails through the Custer Gallatin National Forest and Hebgen Lake Ranger District, outside the boundaries of Yellowstone National Park (the course is approximately 24 miles from the park boundary).
The half marathon blends town streets with scenic, forested terrain and includes rolling climbs, technical rocky and uneven sections, fast downhills, and a small late climb before a gradual downhill finish. The half lists an elevation change of +1,267 ft / -1,263 ft and provides five aid stations. The 5K begins near the expo on Old Airport Road, runs the first mile through town, moves onto forest service roads, and returns to the finish; it lists 54 feet of elevation change and one aid station. The half has a 4.5 hour cutoff; the 5K has no cutoff time.
Event logistics include an expo and bib pickup at the Old Airport Road lot in West Yellowstone and parking at the same location. The event uses cup-free aid stations; runners are asked to carry a reusable bottle, reusable cup, or hydration pack.
