Yellowstone Half Marathon
The Yellowstone event weekend includes a half marathon and a 5K held in and around West Yellowstone, Montana. Races run mostly on rugged dirt roads and forest service trails through the Custer Gallatin National Forest and Hebgen Lake Ranger District, with long open stretches, dense pine forest, and the possibility of wildlife encounters. The half marathon features rocky, technical sections, rolling climbs and downhills, and an overall elevation change of approximately +1,267 ft / -1,263 ft. Five aid stations are available on the half marathon course; the half has a 4.5 hour cutoff. The 5K uses town streets for the opening mile before moving onto forest service roads and includes one aid station with no cutoff time.
Event logistics include an expo and bib pickup at the Old Airport Road lot in West Yellowstone on the Friday before race day, parking at the Old Airport Road lot, and runner drop-off procedures near the parking exit. The weekend follows a cup free policy; runners should bring a reusable bottle, cup, or hydration pack for on-course refills. Place medals are awarded to top finishers by gender and age groups and finisher medals are given to all finishers. Additional weekend options include combination challenge registrations that pair this race with nearby races for multi-race awards and swag.
