Yellowstone Half Marathon & 5K
The Yellowstone event runs June 11-12, 2027 in the West Yellowstone area and offers two distances:
- 13.1 mi Half Marathon
- 5K
The courses use dirt roads, forest service roads, and trail sections through the Custer Gallatin National Forest and Hebgen Lake Ranger District near West Yellowstone. The half marathon features rolling climbs and technical, rocky sections with fast downhills and a final stretch that smooths out before a gradual downhill finish. Reported elevation change for the half is +1,267 ft and -1,263 ft. The half includes five aid stations and a 4.5 hour cutoff; the 5K includes one aid station.
The 5K starts from the expo location on Old Airport Road, with the first mile through town before moving onto forest roads and returning to the finish. The race courses are outside Yellowstone National Park boundaries; the nearest iconic park features are roughly 24 miles away.
Event logistics include an expo and bib pickup at the Old Airport Road lot off Iris Street in West Yellowstone. Spectators are welcome and may park at the same lot; finish-line recovery services are reserved for runners. The event follows a cup-free, zero waste approach: participants should carry a reusable bottle, cup, or hydration pack, and use designated compost, recycling, and waste containers.
Every finisher receives a finisher medal. Place medals are awarded to top finishers overall and by age group; non-binary overall awards are listed but non-binary age group awards are not offered. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
