The Ultimate SUCK - Cuba, IL
The Ultimate SUCK takes place September 4 to September 6, 2026 on the Decker Farm near Cuba, Illinois, marking the event's 15th anniversary. It is offered in three timed formats:
- The Ultimate SUCK, 36 hour event
- The SUCK, 12 hour event
- The GUT CHECK, 4 hour event
Base camp is a tent area in a hay field; RVs and buses are not permitted. Participants are not allowed to sleep once the event begins.
The event combines Midwestern farm chores, military-style exercises, trail running and strongman tasks. Possible activities include shooting a shotgun, carrying hay or logs, lifting and chopping wood, and exposure to irritants; specific tasks are not revealed in advance.
Required gear includes a ruck sack or backpack, a hydration pack, a headlamp with spare batteries, safety glasses, an emergency blanket and a reflective vest. Specific items for certain formats are required, for example a splitting axe for the 12 and 36 hour formats, two 5 gallon buckets, homemade sandbags with specified weights, and a military duffle filled to half body weight for the 36 hour format. A life jacket is also listed as required.
Recommended items include a wetsuit top, trail shoes, work gloves, rain gear, food and water, tent and sleeping gear, insect repellent, duct tape and a basic first aid kit.
Crews and pacers are not allowed on course until hour 24. After that time one pacer per competitor is permitted for the final 12 hours but may only assist at the competitor's campsite; violations may result in disqualification. The event is open to ages 18 to 80 and follows a no refunds no transfers policy. After the timed portion there is a bonfire and breakfast on site.
