Peter Rackett '61 5K Run
The Peter Rackett '61 5K Run is an annual 3.1 mile road event organized by the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy Alumni Association and Foundation (AAF). The AAF conducts two 5K runs each year; this race is the opening event of the season and is scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 1, 2026. The event takes place at Tomb Field, 300 Steamboat Road, Kings Point, NY.
The race is open to midshipmen, alumni, family, friends, faculty, and staff. Participation is offered at no charge. Competitions are organized by Regimental Company and Academy Department categories. The event is held outdoors and is described as casual in attire. Light food and drink will be available. Volunteers are requested to support the event.
Registration is required via the AAF process, and in-person registration on the day of the event is noted in event materials. The race was named in honor of a long-serving member of the Academy community and reflects a continuing connection to the institution and its athletic programs.
