The Opening Act 5K Run & Walk
The Opening Act is a running event positioned to kick off Carmel PorchFest in MidTown, Carmel, Indiana. It offers in-person and virtual options and takes place near 365 Monon Blvd in the MidTown DORA district.

The timed 5K course starts and finishes on Monon Blvd at MidTown. The route goes north on the Monon, west toward Meadowlark Park, then south to City Center Drive before returning north to the finish. The timed event includes age group awards, medals and an official event shirt.
Participants receive a special cup for walking around MidTown with an adult beverage while in the DORA district. Post race refreshments and music are provided, and MidTown restaurants offer specials. A jazz band will march the group north on the Monon toward the start of PorchFest, creating a parade atmosphere.
Registration details provided by the organizer list a $35 registration fee for both the in-person and virtual options. Proceeds support the Carmel PorchFest Grant Program, which provides financial assistance to students pursuing musical arts in exchange for volunteer hours.
