The Memorial Day Freedom 5K Run/Walk
The Memorial Day Freedom 5K Run/Walk is a community race held in Malverne, New York, centered on a tribute to veterans. The event follows the village Memorial Day parade route and uses Connolly Station at 280 Hempstead Ave, Malverne, NY 11565 as the event site. Parking is available in the lot behind Fitness 19 fitness club.
The course is a two loop route described as fast and flat. Event features and amenities include free finish line photos, refreshments such as protein balls, brownies, bananas and water, on-site bathrooms at Connolly Station, and giveaway items for early registrants including drawstring bags, medals for early finishers, personalized bibs for those who register three weeks in advance, seed packets, and crumb cake from the Malverne Bakery.
The event raises money for several local and national beneficiaries, with past fundraising totaling $15,000 distributed among the American Legion Post 44, the Malverne Fire Department, a memorial scholarship in memory of Sgt. Winters, Paws of War, the Detective Steven McDonald Foundation, and Crossroads Farm. Organizers partnered with the Never Stop Running Foundation 501c(3) to make sponsorships and donations tax deductible.
